Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing at Lapland University of Applied Sciences prepares students for nursing work with individuals, families and communities in different life situations. The programme covers health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. It also uses nursing research skills, medical science, pharmacology, and social and behavioural sciences. The studies include remote and digital services, service guidance and Green Care.
The degree is 210 ECTS credits and lasts three and a half years. It includes 91 ECTS of clinical practice in settings such as hospitals, health care centres, outpatient clinics and third sector organisations. Students study through activating lectures, simulations, workshops, seminars, projects with working life partners and independent study. The thesis is 15 credits and is completed with working life. Students can also take part of their studies in an international exchange in Europe or outside Europe.
The programme follows the Professional Qualifications Directive for general care nurses. After 180 ECTS credits, students must pass a national exam. Graduates apply for professional practice rights from the Finnish Supervisory Agency and receive the professional title Registered Nurse.
