The Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing TopUp at Arcada University of Applied Sciences is for internationally educated nurses who want a Finnish Bachelor of Health Care and EU nursing competencies. The programme focuses on Finnish Nursing Competencies, Finnish Nursing Practice, and, for applicants with a Nursing diploma, Research Methodology and Thesis Writing. It also covers professional engagement, clinical care, health promotion, learning and tutoring, nursing ethics, interprofessional work and safety culture, and leadership and decision-making from a Finnish perspective.
Arcada says the programme combines accreditation of previous studies, practical training and work experience, up to 150 ECTS, with study of the remaining credits. Language teaching is embedded in both theoretical courses and clinical skills teaching. Students can also take a professional vocabulary-enhancing Finnish course and a beginner course in Swedish, or the reverse for Swedish-speaking students.
The programme qualifies graduates as registered nurses with EU competencies. After graduation, students receive the title Bachelor of Health Care (Registered Nurse) and can apply to Valvira for the right to work as a professional practitioner in Finland.
