Arcada University of Applied Sciences describes Mechanical and Sustainable Engineering as a Bachelor of Engineering programme focused on sustainable materials, product design and development, engineering design, material processing, and computational modelling and simulation. Students study materials characteristics and selection criteria, mechanical testing, circular economy, life cycle analysis, CAD, mechanics of materials, CAE, digital production systems, CNC milling, injection moulding, extrusion, sustainable material processing, structural mechanics, heat transfer, robotic arm manipulation using computer vision, and precision measurement with CMM.
The degree comprises 240 ECTS credits and lasts four years. Arcada offers the programme in contact teaching, with an online path implementation and a daytime studies implementation. The thesis module includes 15 credits of thesis work and 15 credits of methodology studies. The thesis is an independent research project under lecturer supervision and is presented in public.
Arcada says the programme is connected to departmental projects with in-house and external partners. Students can take part in hands-on research, company excursions, internship possibilities and company thesis projects. Graduates are eligible to apply for master’s degree programmes in Finland and elsewhere.
