The Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, top-up degree at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences trains nursing experts. Students study the theoretical basis of nursing, professional clinical skills and the ethical foundation needed for nurses. The programme covers customer-oriented nursing, management and entrepreneurship, clinical nursing, social welfare and health care operating environments, evidence-based decision-making, guidance and teaching expertise, health promotion, and the quality and safety of social welfare and health care services.
The degree totals 210 ECTS credits and normally takes about 1.5 to 2 years, depending on prior education in nursing. It is taught through daytime contact studies and requires full-time study. The programme includes core requirement studies, language studies, practical training, a final project, innovation studies and multidisciplinary elective studies. Students whose native language is not Finnish have Finnish lessons in the curriculum. The final project is usually carried out with a partner in one of Metropolia's workplace-oriented projects and may be completed in teams.
Graduates are prepared to guide, support, treat and rehabilitate people of different ages and to work in multidisciplinary teams and networks. They can also apply for the right to practise as a nurse through Valvira after graduation.
