Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing

This Bachelor of Health Care in Nursing covers nursing science, evidence-based nursing care, health promotion, clinical nursing and development in a multidisciplinary social and health care service system. It also includes basic studies, professional studies, clinical practice in nursing, research and development studies, thesis work, complementary professional studies and elective studies.

SAMK delivers the programme as full-time contact teaching on campus in Pori. The studies use a problem-based approach, modern simulation facilities, digital platforms and versatile teaching methods. About one third of the studies are clinical practice in different social and health care environments. The thesis is working-life based and is carried out in close cooperation with working life partners.

SAMK says the programme prepares students for work in primary health care, hospitals, private services, third sector organisations or as entrepreneurs. It also gives students the knowledge and skills to work independently and in multiprofessional and international teams.

Applicants must have sufficient good health status and functional capacity to complete practical assignments and work placement periods. The field is not suitable for illegal drug users or for alcohol or legal drug abusers. Conditions such as musculoskeletal diseases, chronic skin diseases, allergies and mental health disorders may affect studies or working life. Immunisation must be in order for work in units that treat patients exposed to infections.
