Doctoral Programme in Science, Forestry and Technology (LUMETO)

The Doctoral Programme in Science, Forestry and Technology (LUMETO) at the University of Eastern Finland leads to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Science in Technology, or Doctor of Science (Agriculture and Forestry). It covers biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, forestry, applied physics, technical physics, computer science, environmental science, photonics, data engineering and sustainable technologies.

The programme is built around doctoral research in the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology. Doctoral studies include at least 30 ECTS of coursework, with transferable skills studies and studies in the discipline and field of research. The aim is for full-time doctoral researchers to complete the degree in 3–4 years, and the dissertation may be article-based or another work that meets equivalent scientific criteria.

The University of Eastern Finland says the programme prepares doctoral researchers to create new expertise and solutions for global challenges by using the methods of scientific research critically and independently. The doctoral degree leads to demanding expert, development and research positions in universities, the business world and the public sector.
