The Master’s Degree Programme in Biology of Environmental Change is a research-oriented programme in biological and related sciences. Students study biology from molecules to ecosystem levels and build theoretical and methodological knowledge in at least one specialised subject such as ecology, hydrobiology, or genetics and physiology. The programme also develops generic core competencies for scientific research and skills in field and laboratory methods.
The programme lasts two years and is taught in English. It includes lectures, exercises, book exams, and hands-on training in research groups. The Master’s thesis has an experimental element and is intended to strengthen skills in data collection, data analysis, and scientific reporting. Practical training in research institutes or other relevant workplaces can be included in the degree.
The degree includes advanced studies, a personal study plan, alternative studies, and language and communication studies. The advanced studies are organised into study modules in ecology, hydrobiology and ecotoxicology, and genetics and physiology.
