The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the University of Eastern Finland gives students a foundation in Computer Science. The curriculum covers programming, algorithms, data management, software design, and human-computer interaction from introductory to advanced levels. Students also complete one or two minor subjects, such as Data Science, Business, Law, Social Sciences, or Environmental Sciences.
The bachelor’s degree is full-time and takes three years. Most studies are delivered through face-to-face teaching on the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. Some courses are taught together with the Bachelor of Engineering in Information and Communication Technology at Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Students who complete the bachelor’s degree can continue directly to the two-year Master of Science in Information Technology, which includes an IMPIT seminar, a master’s project or practical training, and an MSc thesis.
The University of Eastern Finland says the MSc programme gives strong opportunities for research and professional development. Many students secure internships, thesis placements, or employment with Finnish ICT companies before graduation. Students interested in research can join research groups during their MSc studies and continue to doctoral studies.
