The Master's Degree Programme in Information Technology (IMPIT) is a two-year Master of Science in Computer Science. It covers advanced and elective-level computer science studies, with mandatory core studies in personal study planning, Finnish language, the IMPIT seminar, an IT project or practical training, and a Master's thesis. Students can also choose from advanced courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Pattern Recognition, Software Engineering, and Research Methods in Computer Science.
The first year consists mainly of advanced and elective-level Computer Science studies. The second year is mainly reserved for an individual IT project or internship in a company and the Master's thesis. The curriculum is flexible, and students can include exchange studies, company traineeships, and courses from other departments. The programme is linked to the School of Computing's research groups, and students can join them during their MSc studies.
The University of Eastern Finland says the programme is intended to prepare students for work in Finnish ICT companies and for further postgraduate studies.
