Master's Degree Programme in European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact

The Master’s Degree Programme in European Languages, Cultures and Societies in Contact trains language professionals in an interdisciplinary theoretical framework and practical methods for a multilingual and multicultural world. The degree gives expertise in multilingual and multicultural societies in interaction, with specialised theoretical, methodological and practical training in linguistic and cultural contact within a European framework.

At the University of Turku, the main course path is in either the French and/or the German department, so a major part of the studies is in French or German. The programme also offers advanced research methods in these fields from the perspective of linguistic and cultural diversity, and it may include courses on Digital Language Studies or Finnish Culture Studies. It is delivered through contact teaching and independent learning over two years.

The degree leads to work as an expert in European languages, language diversity and cultures for industry and for local, national and international bodies. The programme also leads to doctoral studies according to the major, and the degree description names multicultural business advising, multilingual project management, diplomacy, transcultural communication and media and transcultural communication as relevant career paths.
