The Master’s Degree Programme in Inequalities, Interventions and New Welfare State is a cross-disciplinary, international study programme at the University of Turku. It gives training in social inequalities and welfare, social policy and intervention design, and advanced statistical methods for measuring data on these topics.

The programme takes two years and uses contact teaching. The first year mainly consists of methods and substantive courses, together with the initial development of the thesis idea and proposal. The second year centres on seminars and the thesis in the first semester, and includes work-life competences, internship and exchange studies in the second semester. Students are linked with the research groups of INVEST.

The programme is designed to provide a foundation for doctoral research and advanced skills for work as a policy maker, analyst or researcher in public administration. The thesis can be based on themes such as comparative research on social inequalities, child and youth development in context, welfare state services, population and family demographics, prevention and intervention research, and advanced statistical methods.
