The International Bachelor's Degree Programme in Sustainable Forest Bioeconomy focuses on sustainable forest management and the wider field of forest bioeconomy. It covers forest ecosystems and sustainability challenges such as climate change, overconsumption and biodiversity loss. The programme also includes research methods in the forest, digitalised learning environments and foresight methods for assessing futures of forest-related topics.
The degree is module-based and lasts three years. The first year covers the fundamentals and methods of forest bioeconomy, sustainability and university life. The second year develops knowledge, methods and professional skills. In the final year, students complete an internship, an exchange period, a project and a bachelor's thesis. The programme also includes minor and elective courses.
University of Eastern Finland describes the programme as a route to further study at master level, including the Master of Science in European Forestry and the Master's degree programme of forestry.
