Lingnan University of Hong Kong HKPFS Fellowship

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) is established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Its purpose is to attract students from around the world to pursue PhD programmes in Hong Kong institutions.

Lingnan University can nominate applicants for the Fellowship award. For each Fellowship awardee, the monthly stipend is HK$28,700 (subject to annual review), plus a conference/research-related travel allowance of up to HK$14,400 per year (subject to annual review).

Lingnan conducts selection of applicants for its PhD programmes and nominates those it considers outstanding and brilliant for the Fellowship. Selection panels set up by the RGC evaluate and assess the nominations submitted by institutions.

Support is provided for a maximum period of 3 years. If an awardee’s normative study period is 4 years, the University offers the same level of fellowship and conference/research-related travel allowance for the fourth year of study.

1. Log in to the Admission System of the RGC at www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd during the stated application window (HKT 12:00 referenced).
2. Obtain the reference number allocated to you by the RGC.
3. Submit a full application directly to Lingnan’s electronic system by the stated deadline, quoting the RGC reference number for verification.
4. Settle the application fee.
5. Select “HK PhD Fellowship Scheme” as the application type in the Online Admission System.
6. Follow Lingnan’s process for nomination: Lingnan selects applicants for its PhD programmes and nominates outstanding applicants for the HKPFS.
7. If you are nominated but not finally offered the Fellowship, and if you are not selected for nomination for the Fellowship, you will be considered for admission as a PhD student at Lingnan using Postgraduate Studentship places assigned to the University.
