Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery

The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Amoud University is designed to produce physicians equipped with knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to meet societal health needs. The curriculum follows Somaliland's national medical education policy and focuses on relevant health issues in the local context. Students study the structure, function, and behavior of the body in health and disease, learn to diagnose and manage patients, and undertake minor research projects. The program covers biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences applied to medicine. Delivery includes five academic levels over approximately five years and 10 semesters, with 327 credit hours combining theory, practicals, clinical, and field training. Vertical and horizontal integration of subjects occurs, with increasing clinical exposure throughout. Active learning, problem-based learning, and clinical practice are emphasized. Upon graduation, students enter a one-year supervised internship.

Applicants must demonstrate academic ability to complete the freshman year of undergraduate studies. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent in relevant pre-medical courses is required. Transfer applicants must have completed at least one year of medical education at an accredited institution. They must have a strong academic record with prerequisite courses completed, provide evidence English was the medium of instruction, be in good academic standing with a GPA meeting or exceeding Amoud Medical School standards, and admission depends on available slots. Transfer applicants must submit transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement, and may be invited for interview or assessment.

International transfer applicants must provide evidence that English was the medium of instruction at their previous institution.
