Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering Civil Engineering

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering (Civil Engineering) at the Open University of Sri Lanka prepares students for engineering roles in the construction industry. Graduates work on the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including structures and services such as buildings, roads, railways, bridges, canals, dams, harbours, airports, water supply, sewage disposal, and irrigation schemes.

The curriculum includes engineering mathematics and core engineering topics such as Electro-techniques, Communicating engineering information, Construction materials, Structural analysis and design, Hydraulics and hydrology, Surveying, Strength of materials, Soil mechanics and introduction to rock mechanics, Engineering geology, Geotechnics, and Environmental engineering. It also includes Construction engineering and planning, Construction engineering and management, Structural design, Highway engineering, Building engineering, Irrigation engineering, Quantity surveying, and Final year projects, plus Industrial Training-(Civil-Diploma) and Industrial Training-(Civil-Undergraduate).

Admission requirements:

• Obtained passes in the subjects, Combined Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one & the same sitting, or
• Obtained the Advanced Certificate in Science with courses in the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, offered by The OUSL, or
• Obtained a minimum three (3) credit (C) passes for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in Cambridge/Edexcel Advanced Level Examination within three years, or
• Obtained an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.
