Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering Electrical Engineering

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering in Electrical Engineering at The Open University of Sri Lanka is an undergraduate engineering programme focused on planning, design, operation, and control. It includes industrial training and an associated project component, and it covers electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.

Core areas include electro-mechanical energy conversion; power system studies with protective measures; power systems planning with reliability concepts; high voltage engineering with insulation coordination; and electronics, controls, communication, management, and mathematics support. The course also uses hands-on experience from software tools in the power system laboratory, plus optional courses from other engineering disciplines.

Admission requires obtained passes in the subjects, Combined Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one & the same sitting, or obtained the Advanced Certificate in Science with courses in the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, offered by The OUSL, or obtained a minimum three (3) credit (C) passes for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in Cambridge/Edexcel Advanced Level Examination within three years, or obtained an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

Students with prior academic qualifications beyond standard entry requirements may be eligible for course exemptions based on their learning history, using the Student Guidebook of the respective academic year. Even with exemptions, students must complete OUSL courses and earn a minimum number of credits to qualify for an award.
