Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering Electronics Communication Engineering

The Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Electronics & Communication Engineering at the Open University of Sri Lanka is an undergraduate honours programme. It is designed to build theoretical and practical knowledge for careers in areas such as data networking, mobile communications, television and radio broadcasting, satellite communication, electronic and instrumentation engineering, and control systems engineering. The programme focuses on technical skills to design, develop, install, test, and maintain electronic and communication systems.

Students study core units including Electronics principles and systems; Microprocessors and interfacing; Communication engineering principles and systems; Microwave communication systems and applications; Data communication; Control systems engineering; Engineering mathematics; Management for engineers; Industrial training; and Undergraduate project. The final year undergraduate project applies theoretical knowledge in practice and supports technical, analytical, design, and interpersonal skills. The programme has a minimum duration of 5 academic years, with a maximum of fifteen academic years.

• Obtained passes in the subjects, Combined Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one & the same sitting, or
• Obtained the Advanced Certificate in Science with courses in the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, offered by The OUSL, or
• Obtained a minimum three (3) credit (C) passes for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in Cambridge/Edexcel Advanced Level Examination within three years, or
• Obtained an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.

Exemptions: Students with prior academic qualifications beyond standard entry requirements may be eligible for course exemptions based on their learning history. Even with exemptions, students must complete OUSL courses and earn a minimum number of credits to qualify for an award.
