The Master in Civil Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Aargau (FHNW), awards a Master of Science FHNW in Engineering with a specialisation in Civil Engineering. The programme prepares students to develop expertise in selected core disciplines such as structural engineering, geotechnics, or transport infrastructure construction, and to build competence for project leadership.
The study structure totals 90 ECTS and is split into three main parts: Zentrale Module (30 ECTS), Vertiefung (30 ECTS), and Masterarbeit (30 ECTS). Teaching is in person. Students can study full time in three semesters or part time in five semesters; part-time study allows additional employment in an engineering office or at the Institute of Civil Engineering. The campus location for the programme is FHNW Campus Muttenz.
Students choose one of four specialisation tracks: Vertiefung Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau, Vertiefung Geotechnik, Vertiefung Wasserbau und Wasserwirtschaft, or Vertiefung Verkehrsplanung und Verkehrssysteme. The depth portion includes two specialisation projects, the master’s thesis, and participation in additional seminars and events, with emphasis on experimental opportunities provided by the modern building laboratory.
