The Master in Life Sciences – Chemical Engineering is a Master of Science in Life Sciences in the FHNW School of Life Sciences. It combines (bio-)chemistry, pharmaceutical science, and environmental technology with process engineering, safety technology, and sustainability. You study process development and optimisation, technological reflection with practical relevance, and digital tools for simulation, calculation, and data-supported process control.
The programme is delivered with onsite and online learning modes and can be taken full-time, part-time, or as part-time/work-study. You earn a total of 50 ECTS credits through modules, including an eight-month thesis. The thesis can be done at an industry partner or in the Process Technology Centre. Elective modules allow specialisation in biotechnology, analytical chemistry, organic and supramolecular chemistry, and environmental technologies.
Graduates combine scientific foundations with engineering expertise and can design, implement, and operate processes. The programme lists employment areas that include pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, chemical and process engineering, raw materials and the circular economy, energy and environmental technology, technology start-ups and innovation centres, and consulting and engineering offices.
