AIT Japanese Government Scholarship

The Government of Japan offers Doctoral scholarships for the academic programmes in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (or) Mechatronics and Machine Intelligence under the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST) at Asian Institute of Technology. The scholarship is offered for priority countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Eligibility is aimed at applicants with strong academic records, including both undergraduate and graduate study, and who normally hold a four-year Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree. Applicants must be from the listed priority countries, and their Doctoral programme admission is linked to a minimum GPA requirement at the Master’s level.

Selection criteria include strong academic records, submission of a brief dissertation research proposal outline (including required research facilities if necessary), and meeting English proficiency requirements. English proficiency can be demonstrated through specified test scores or an AIT score. Applicants apply through the AIT online admission portal and may describe their scholarship request in their statement of purpose.

Coverage includes tuition and registration fees up to a maximum number of semesters, bursary and accommodation costs, visa fee, medical insurance, student union fee, research support, and one round-trip international air travel in economy class for non-Thai applicants. No additional obligations after support are described.

• Applicants must be from one of the following priority countries: Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, or Sri Lanka.
• Applicants must have strong academic records (both undergraduate and graduate) and normally hold a four-year Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree.
• Applicants must have a Master’s Degree preferably with a combination of course and thesis work.
• The prior institution must be of good standing and acceptable to Asian Institute of Technology.
• Minimum GPA requirement for admission to the Doctoral program is 3.50 or equivalent at the Master’s degree level.
• Applicants must submit a brief outline of the dissertation research proposal, including the required research facilities if necessary.
• English proficiency requirement: TOEFL (Computer-based 210 or iTOEFL 76) or IELTS-Academic (6 with writing and overall) or an AIT-EET score of 6 or equivalent.
• Applicants must apply through the Asian Institute of Technology online admission portal.
• No separate scholarship application is required.
