Bachelors in Law Programs in Indonesia: Top 11

Indonesia's law degree is the Sarjana Hukum, a four-year undergraduate qualification taught in Indonesian — which is the first thing an international applicant has to weigh, and the thing that makes these eleven programmes a realistic choice mainly for people who intend to work in or with Indonesia.

How this list is ordered: Ordered by each university's QS World University Rankings position where it has one, then by research citations recorded by OpenAlex; one programme per university, and universities with neither measure are left out.

Studying law in Indonesia: common questions

Are these degrees taught in English?

Generally no — Indonesian law is taught in Indonesian, as the titles on this page indicate. Some universities run international classes with English delivery, usually at a different fee, and one entry's admission record hints at such a route. Ask each institution directly, because it rarely appears in programme listings.

What do I need to do after the degree to practise?

Professional training for advocates, the professional examination administered through the advocates' organisation, and an oath before the high court. The degree is the qualifying condition rather than the licence. Careers in the judiciary and the prosecution service are entered through separate state recruitment processes.

How long is the degree and how many credits?

Four years is the standard, and the records bear that out — one states approximately four years with 144 credits and another eight semesters full time. That credit figure is the normal shape of an Indonesian bachelor's degree and a useful benchmark when comparing programmes.

How do I check a programme's accreditation?

On the national register, for the study programme rather than for the university as a whole — the two are accredited separately and it is the programme's grade that follows you into state recruitment and postgraduate admission. Grades are reassessed periodically, so check the register rather than a prospectus.

Is an Indonesian law degree useful outside Indonesia?

It is a degree in Indonesian law, so its value is highest for working in Indonesia or with Indonesian law from abroad. Recognition elsewhere is a question for the destination country's own authority and is never automatic. If you want a general international qualification, this is not the route.
