The Bachelor of Science in Gender and Applied Women Health at Mbarara University of Science and Technology is an interdisciplinary program focused on applied women health issues. Students study topics that address feminists, women health, and gender issues, with theoretical and practical understanding of how gender, culture, biomedical factors, and psychosocial factors shape women’s health and illness.
The program provides training that includes identifying and analyzing barriers to women and community health, demonstrating understanding of social determinants of health at micro and macro levels, and carrying out gender mainstreaming exercises in women and reproductive healthcare and policy. It also includes critiquing causes of healthcare system inadequacies and designing and implementing women health promotion programs at national, regional, and international levels.
