Bachelor of Science in Planning and Community Development

The Bachelor of Science in Planning and Community Development (BSc.PCD) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology is an accredited programme that uses an interdisciplinary approach to prepare students as community development practitioners. Students build planning skills for inclusive thinking and for integrating techniques to support interdisciplinary decision-making and problem solving. The programme also develops understanding of community needs through policy perspectives and theoretical and conceptual debates in planning and community development.

The programme develops skills in theory application, community organizing, finance, planning and management. It prepares students to address development challenges in rural and urban areas in Uganda and to enter planning and policy work. Students gain preparation for high level entry into community development and planning roles in government and non-government agencies, and for work connected to public administration, social services, consultancy, advocacy, academia, and other areas. The programme structure allows students to graduate with a specialized focus through Sustainable Rural Development, Urban Policy, Governance and Development, or Civil Society and Service Delivery.

Direct Entry: Two principal passes at A’level

Diploma Entry: Diploma in any relevant field

Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC): Holders of HEAC are eligible to apply to be considered for admission to the program. The admission decision will be based on performance in HEAC and whether they meet the specific admission requirements for the programme.
