The Graduate Certificate in Education at Roehampton University of Surrey is the iPGCE (International Postgraduate Certificate in Education). It helps you develop insights as a global teacher into your own pedagogy and practice within national and international contexts. You study how curricula are designed in different local, national and international settings and how to use evidence-based teaching practice through inquiry into your own pedagogy.
The programme is delivered online for one year full-time and uses blended learning approaches. You learn at your own pace using access to all materials, and you take part in live online sessions at the beginning and end of the course. You also join online discussion forums and receive tutorials for assignments. You are expected to work with a school-based mentor who reflects with you on pupil learning and supports your online reflections.
The iPGCE supports teachers who are already employed in schools. Roehampton states the course does not lead directly to Qualified Teacher Status. Graduates can choose a separate assessment only route to QTS and PGCE if they meet the entry criteria.
