Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Honours

The Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Honours at Zimbabwe Open University develops skills in accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial management. Students study areas including financial accounting, business law, economics, quantitative analysis, information technology, management, audit skills and process, corporate finance, and research methods.

Teaching follows a structured programme with foundation, intermediate, work-related learning, and advanced modules. Students complete Industrial Attachment (minimum 8 months) with continuous assessment and a report, plus advanced study in Advanced Financial Reporting, Advanced Taxation, Advanced Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Strategic Management Accounting, and a Research Project.

On completion, graduates prepare financial statements in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Zimbabwean accounting standards, apply auditing principles in line with International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), and conduct independent research in accounting and related fields.

Normal Entry

• 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language and Mathematics (Grade C or better);
• ‘A’ Level passes including Accounting and any other Commercial subject or Mathematics is an added advantage

Special Entry

• National Diploma (ND) in Accountancy or equivalent with merit (credits/distinctions) in at least half of the programme modules; direct entry into Part II may be granted

Mature Entry

• Applicants who do not meet normal entry requirements but possess relevant work experience (minimum 3) , subject to University Senate approval
