Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Early Childhood Development

The Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Early Childhood Development covers theories and foundations of early childhood development (including child development and learning, psychological foundations, historical and philosophical foundations, and sociological foundations). It also studies culture and heritage studies, policy issues, health, safety and nutrition in early childhood, managing ECD programmes, and curriculum issues in ECD. Students study research methods and statistics and topics such as play, inclusive education, language arts, mathematics and science, and contemporary issues in ECD.

The programme includes introduction to computers, communication skills, entrepreneurship theory and practice, instructional media and technology, and professional studies and professional ethics in education. Assessment and evaluation topics include guidance and counselling in ECD, mentorship in ECD classes, and ECD-based assessment and evaluation. Teaching Practice takes place across both semesters, and students complete a research project.
