The Africa University Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Honours is an undergraduate, full-time program within the Department of Biomedical and Laboratory Sciences in the College of Health, Agriculture and Natural Sciences. Students study laboratory principles and practical work, clinical chemistry, clinical pathology and practicals, genetics and molecular biology, and core laboratory science subjects such as transfusion science and immunology, haematology and its practicals, microbiology, histology, and parasitology, mycology and virology, including practicals.
The program also includes health and research topics such as health services organization, health economics and healthcare financing, health informatics, and epidemiology and biostatistics. Students complete research methods and ethics in health care, a research project proposal, and a research project. Practical experience includes internship 1 and internship 2, plus laboratory-focused modules such as Laboratory Principles Practical, Clinical Pathology Practicals, Practical Transfusion Science and Immunology, Haematology Practical, Practical Microbiology: Bacteriology, Histology Practical, and Immunology Practical.
