Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Biotechnology

The Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Biotechnology covers biochemistry, organic chemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and thermodynamics, along with biotechnology-focused subjects such as bioprocess engineering, genetic engineering, fermentation biotechnology, and protein engineering. Students also study supporting areas including mathematics for technologists, biostatistics, technical communication skills, and technopreneurship.

The programme runs over four years of full-time study, with each year split into two semesters. The first two years include theoretical courses, while the third academic year is reserved for industrial attachment and a research project. In Part IV, students select at least two options, and each option includes at least six courses, subject to availability of resources and approval by the department.

All applicants have to meet the following minimum requirements for admission prescribed under the general regulations:

• Have obtained two (2) Advanced Level passes in Biology and Chemistry and a third subject which could either be Physics or Mathematics;
• Have obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Biotechnology, or its equivalent plus a minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualification experience.
• Have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Biotechnology or its equivalent.
