Master of Education in Educational Technology Studies

The Master of Education in Educational Technology Studies (MEd (ETS)) at Africa University is a postgraduate programme in the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. It is for candidates who have a Bachelor of Education (BEd), Bachelor of Arts with Education (BAEd), or Bachelor of Science with Education (BScEd) and want to undertake further studies in educational technology within the training institution or other institutions.

The programme aims to support staff development for trained teachers (in-service training) for staff from the Ministry of Education and other related ministries. It uses a block release programme to help school teachers in Zimbabwe and other African countries access in-service training without disrupting their teaching programmes. Learning mode is full time, and the location is the main campus. The curriculum includes foundations, research methods, digital pedagogies, instructional design, multimedia instructional strategies, online learning, a practical project, and a research proposal defense and dissertation.

Normal Entry: Subject to the provisions of the Guidelines for Graduate Studies of Africa University, the following Special Guidelines apply:

• A good first degree in relevant areas form Africa University or any other accredited institution recognized by Africa University.
• A candidate must satisfy all the other usual entry requirements for a programme as stipulated in the University registration rules.

Special Entry:

• On completion of this programme, graduates of should be able to: design and implement educational technology solutions that enhance organisational performance; create purposeful digital media drawing from research on design and the instructional use of multimedia; demonstrate theoretical content knowledge of digital pedagogies; serve as peer technology coaches for colleagues in institutions of learning and related educational settings; and demonstrate leadership skills in applying instructional technology in students’ respective working environments.
