Master of Technology Degree in Materials Technology and Engineering

The Master of Technology Degree in Materials Technology and Engineering focuses on materials science and engineering topics such as the processing, synthesis, modification, selection, and application of engineering materials. Students study areas including extractive metallurgy, advanced materials processing and characterisation, advanced solid-state chemistry, fracture mechanics and fatigue, physics of semiconductors, science of materials, batteries and supercapacitors, applied research methods, thermodynamics and reaction kinetics of materials, metallurgical processing, advanced nano-materials, advanced physical metallurgy, and a seminar. The program also includes work under modules shown for later semesters, including a project.

The program is organised into four semesters with listed course codes and total credits for each module in earlier semesters. Semester I includes five taught modules (each with 18 credits) plus two electives (each with 15 credits). Semester II includes six taught modules (each with 18 credits). Semester IV includes a project with 90 credits. The intended learning outcomes include using mathematics, science, and engineering principles to solve materials engineering problems, conducting experiments using logical arguments, and communicating results in writing through research papers.
