Bachelor's in Studio Art
Introduction
Studio Art is a Bachelor program taught at Bates College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Studio Art track within the Art and Visual Culture major focuses on making. Students study and practice creative media that includes animation, ceramics, drawing, film, painting, photography, and print. The program also supports developing an independent voice through creative production, thinking alongside a broad range of authors and artists, and exploring sociohistorical context.
Studio art majors undertake a yearlong thesis that concludes in an exhibition of their work at the Bates Museum of Art. Alongside studio work, the major emphasizes approaches to media and representation, and it includes examining art and visual culture through the lens of power and privilege.
