Biology
Introduction
Biology is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Biology at Bennington College covers molecular structure and function of proteins, the organization of the nervous system, evolutionary adaptations of physiological systems, regulation of biodiversity, and global ecosystem function. Students study topics such as the genetics of model organisms, protein function in cellular regulation, behavior of marine organisms, neurological function in invertebrates, regulation of forest plant diversity, and ecosystem dynamics using mathematical and computer models.
Students work closely with faculty to design the content, structure, and sequence of their study and practice, called their Plan. The program uses well-equipped labs, work in natural habitats, and computer-based work, with collaboration beyond Bennington. Biology also includes a Field Work Term for work with research teams and applied biologists around the world, including at major research hospitals and universities, National Park settings, and field-stations.
The program focuses on intellectual process through reading current research literature, interacting with guest speakers, and designing original research in introductory through advanced classes. It prepares graduates for the professional scientific world across pure research, education, and applying biology in health or environmental science and policy.
