Earth Science
Introduction
Earth Science is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Earth Science at Bennington College focuses on understanding how chemical and physical processes create the landscapes and materials around us. Students explore how topics such as volcanic eruptions, photosynthesis and mass-extinction events, and earthquake patterns relate to Earth systems. The program treats earth science as an observational science because meaningful experiments are not possible on something as big and slow-changing as a planet.
Students learn to make subtle observations of minerals, rocks, soils, structures, and landscapes, then place those observations within a theoretical framework based on physics and chemistry. Students wishing to write a plan for earth science take supporting coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. They may also integrate studies with astronomy or ecology, using close working relationships with faculty.
