Introduction

Cultural Studies and Languages is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Cultural Studies and Languages at Bennington College combines language learning with the study of complex cultural ideas. Students study Chinese, French, Japanese, or Spanish through reading and writing, listening and speaking. Course work focuses on cultural discussion and includes performing, telling stories, conducting research, creating art objects, and analyzing cultural artifacts.

Instruction emphasizes faculty-designed content guided by their expertise and the needs and interests of students. Small seminars support linguistic proficiency and discussion, including challenging preconceived notions and comparing and defending ideas.

Students create a Plan with faculty and use resources inside and outside class, including other disciplines, time abroad, and Field Work Term experiences.

Language projects may include written and directed plays, comics and animation, choreographed dances, performed songs, and films and video essays, along with poems, theses, translations, and creative works.
