Bachelor's in Environmental Studies
Introduction
Environmental Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Environmental Studies major at Bennington College connects human worlds and natural worlds to respond to environmental problems. Students work with faculty from across disciplines to design an individual, student-designed program and assemble tools for new insights and interventions. The curriculum addresses global climate change, environmental sustainability, and how the arts can support responses to environmental problems.
Environmental studies emphasizes real-world work and links coursework with Field Work Term internships, community partnerships, and independent research. Students also complete culminating projects that include research on the causes and manifestations of environmental problems, development of innovative and equitable solutions, and/or creation of new ways to express and communicate people’s relationship to their environment. Students may choose a study abroad option at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.
Students apply their learning to campus initiatives, including the Sustainability Working Group, student environmental interest groups, and the student-run Purple Carrot Farm. Graduates work in applied scientific research, policy development, conservation management, and political advocacy. Students also work closely with faculty to design the content, structure, and sequence of their study and practice through their Plan.
