Introduction

History is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The History major at Bennington College trains students in historical thinking through courses in American and international history. Students also study topics that connect history to other areas, with courses that include international law, the Constitution, diplomacy, human rights, and local history, plus histories of science, magic, medicine, books, and gender. Students work with primary sources and place them in context, and they also use secondary sources and classroom discussion to work through readings, ideas, and meanings.

Students work closely with faculty to design the content, structure, and sequence of their study and practice through their Plan. The curriculum includes advanced projects classes and tutorials, which support individual and collaborative interdisciplinary independent projects. Study emphasizes formulating arguments and developing writing skills to express arguments clearly and cogently, and it uses classroom discussion as a collaborative process.
