Introduction

Physics & Astronomy is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Physics & Astronomy at Bennington College is designed around a student’s Plan, created with faculty input on the content, structure, and sequence of study. Students study physics through classes that include quantum mechanics, special relativity, thermal physics, and engineering physics, alongside astronomy and geophysics classes. Students also study astronomy for reasons that can include preparation for professional work, support for another primary area of study, or part of a broad liberal arts education.

Physics and astronomy study are delivered through small classes and close collaboration with faculty. Introductory physics classes have no more than 25 students, and upper-level classes often have fewer than 10 students. Students complete student-designed research projects and can get involved early in astronomy research, using Stickney Observatory, a small radio telescope on the roof of Dickinson, plus publicly available national facilities. Astronomy plans also include mathematics and computer science alongside physics for a strong grounding.
