Introduction

Printmaking is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

In Printmaking at Bennington College, students work closely with faculty to design the content, structure, and sequence of their study and practice through their Plan. The program focuses on exploring printmaking hands on as a versatile, broad contemporary artist medium, while also studying its rich history and methodology.

Students use two multi-use print studios. The Visual and Performing Arts center studio supports stone, plate and photo lithography, intaglio, photopolymer gravure, wood block printing, monotype, and screen printing. The Word and Image Lab letterpress studio has metal type, a photopolymer relief platemaker (A3), and two Vandercook presses (#3 and #4), with print shops and curriculum designed for approaches from introductory work to professional artist’s editions.

Students leave with a sense of printmaking as a contemporary artist medium that can feed into work across disciplines. They also understand how their study relates to the history of printing, communication, and technology, including how technology can be manipulated by artists.
