Bachelor's in Spanish
Introduction
Spanish is a Bachelor program taught at Bennington College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Students study Spanish through courses designed with their faculty to shape the content, structure, and sequence of their study and practice. Each Spanish class is organized around a single culturally relevant concept, literary figure or movement, political period, artistic medium, or genre. Even in introductory levels, students spend the semester engaged with a main idea, analyzing cultural artifacts to anchor understanding and challenge perspectives.
The program moves from introductory to intermediate to advanced study. Beginners use Spanish to examine cultural practices through painting and films, focusing on national identities and stereotypes. Intermediate-level courses emphasize specific literary genres, artistic mediums, or political concepts. Advanced students examine literature, critical theory, and theatre in depth. Small seminars support close reading, challenging questions, and discussion.
Learning is enriched by regular visits from artists, writers, and scholars who participate in classes. Extra-curricular activities are organized through collaboration between faculty and students. Students are encouraged to pursue Field Work Term opportunities, study abroad, and serve in local schools and communities.
