Introduction

French is a Bachelor program taught at Boston College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Boston College French Studies major is designed to build competence in French so students can work with literary and cultural artifacts. Majors expand linguistic proficiency through study of a wide variety of French texts. The program also prepares students to analyze texts and contexts and to conceive, articulate, and defend an original idea.

French Studies majors complete 30 credits (10 three-credit courses). Requirements include 12 credits (4 foundation courses) and 12 credits (4 advanced courses) in French language, literature, or culture at the 4000 level or above, plus 6 credits (2 elective courses). Students begin at the level most appropriate for their linguistic proficiency through language placement, and may begin with Conversation, Composition and Reading I (FREN2209) or II (FREN2210).

The program includes the French Studies major and French Studies minor. The minor follows similar requirements at a lower credit level, requiring 18 credits (6 three-credit courses), including foundation courses and at least two 4000-level courses.
