About this program

The Doctor of Laws is a postgraduate degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lapland. It consists of supervised research and research training based on the student’s personal study plan. Students write a doctoral dissertation and take part in seminars and other courses.

The degree includes 180 ECTS credits. The doctoral thesis is 150 ECTS credits. The programme is built around independent work, with supervision throughout the studies. Teaching can include lectures, seminars, independent learning, contact teaching, online teaching and distance teaching. The University of Lapland also says doctoral candidates may take courses offered by the Graduate School and may join national doctoral education networks.
