Arctic Indigenous Cinema, Master of Arts (Art and Design)

Arctic Indigenous Cinema is a Master of Arts programme at the University of Lapland. It focuses on moving image as a medium for Arctic Indigenous storytelling. The programme asks students to develop their own cinematic thinking and artistic voice. It also builds understanding of film as a form of Indigenous storytelling. Indigenous identity and perspectives form the basis for artistic practice and academic research.

The degree is 120 ECTS credits and is planned as two years of study. Teaching uses independent learning, blended teaching, online teaching and contact teaching. The study structure includes Orientation Studies, Advanced Studies in Arctic Indigenous Cinema, Compulsory Minor Studies and Elective Studies. The master’s thesis may include an artistic production part.

The studies focus on Arctic Indigenous Cinema and Indigenous issues in a northern context. They give eligibility for postgraduate studies.
