Architecture, Master of Science (Architecture)

The Master of Science in Architecture at the University of Oulu is a professional architect’s degree. It covers urban design, building design, restoration and repair construction.

The programme focuses on studio projects, theoretical studies and the diploma thesis project. Studio work ranges from large public buildings to details for buildings and urban structures, with emphasis on sustainability. Lectures cover Finnish and Scandinavian architecture, wood, steel and concrete as building materials, and architectural lighting. The University of Oulu describes the programme as the northernmost architect school in the world, with a focus on Nordic climate and Nordic architecture.

The degree is a professional qualification for work as an architect in Finland and the European Union. The University of Oulu says the degree also gives the right to apply for membership of the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA).
