Sustainable Architecture, Architecture, Master of Science (Architecture)

Tampere University’s Master of Science in Architecture, specialised in Sustainable Architecture, focuses on sustainable architecture, architectural design, urban planning and design, and the management of built heritage. The programme integrates sustainability into design from the starting point through the process to the outcome, with attention to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the resilience of built environments.

The degree takes two years and 120 ECTS credits, organised as four full-time semesters. The first year gives a broad master’s-level foundation in architecture, including public building design and housing design, while the second year focuses on architectural design, with two intensive courses in the autumn and work on the master’s thesis in the spring semester. Teaching is based on design studios, group sessions, excursions and architectural student competitions, with assignments rooted in real-life situations.

Tampere University says the degree qualifies graduates to work as architects in Finland, the EU and other countries, subject to local rules. It also gives eligibility to apply for doctoral studies.
