Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture

Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture at Aalto University studies architecture as a field between technology and art. The programme focuses on the history and theory of architecture, building design, Finnish building art, and urban planning and design. It also includes wood construction, the reuse of buildings, human-centred design and wellbeing, computational design, preservation, and urban design and planning.

The degree takes 2 years and is taught in contact teaching in English. Course and design studio teaching uses multidisciplinary collaboration and advanced teaching methods. Some courses use a learning-by-doing approach and real design assignments, often with the local community. The programme also offers experimental and design research-oriented courses.

Aalto University says the programme supports individual development in specialisation fields and is accredited in line with the professional regulations of EU directives. Studies may include exchange studies, international student competitions, study trips, and an optional internship that can be completed abroad.
