This chemical engineering master's programme covers water treatment for future water-related challenges. It focuses on sustainable and economical treatment of water, with attention to water recycling, resource use, conventional water purification, advanced oxidation, separation methods, aquatic pollutants, and recovery of valuable compounds from wastewater and seawater.

The programme lasts two years and is taught in English. It is delivered as blended teaching, with most obligatory specialisation studies requiring contact teaching in Mikkeli through lectures, exercises, or laboratory assignments. Some courses can be completed as distance learning.

Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT says that practical assignments with real companies are part of the studies, and a research project can be based on a real case study from an industrial partner.
