The PhD in Mathematics and Computer Science at Budapest University of Technology and Economics is a doctoral program focused on independent research under supervision. Students study advanced courses and research in areas including Algebra and number theory, Analysis and quantum information theory, Differential equations, Differential- and algebraic Geometry, Stochastics and Statistical physics, Dynamical Systems and Fractal geometry, Statistics and Data science, Coding Theory and cryptography, Discrete Math. and Theor. Computer Sci., Complex networks theory, and Operational research.
The program has an education structure of 8 semesters. PhD students complete advanced courses, improve presentation skills through guided teaching, and participate in international conferences. Research activities include work under a supervisor, publication in peer reviewed international journals, presentation at international conferences, and a midterm evaluation and comprehensive examination. The PhD degree is awarded based on published results and a public thesis defense.
For our PhD programs, general minimum requirements are an eligible MSc degree, document of English language proficiency, and and successful admission exam. Candidates must demonstrate the necessary background knowledge to carry out successful work in their chosen research field.
