Diploma in Heritage and Cultural Tourism

The Diploma in Heritage and Cultural Tourism equips students with specialized knowledge to promote, manage, and sustain Sri Lanka’s cultural and natural heritage in the tourism sector. Students develop a critical understanding of heritage and culture in tourism, with emphasis on sustainability, identity, and economic value. The programme includes practical skills in heritage interpretation, tour planning, and ethical tourism management.

The programme runs for 1 Years and is scheduled on Weekdays at the Malabe Campus. It is structured as two semesters: Semester 1 covers heritage values, geographic configuration of Sri Lanka, natural heritage, Buddhist culture, community and traditional lifestyle, the tourism industry of Sri Lanka, and research and communication. Semester 2 advances to language and literature, traditional food and medicine, ceremonies and performing arts, traditional art and sculpture, indigenous knowledge heritage, museums and museum collections, and research and communication.

Pass the General Certificate of Education (GCE O/L) + Obtained Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) Level 2 or, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 equivalent qualification.

Pass the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) examination in any stream.
