Master of Science in Renewable Energy and Energy Access

The Master of Science in Renewable Energy and Energy Access at Gulu University prepares students to develop and manage off-grid energy systems, carry out research to increase clean energy access, and apply business, entrepreneurial, and policy skills in the energy access sector. The programme includes core and elective taught courses such as Research Methods, Biomass and Bioenergy, Sustainable Energy Management, Small Hydropower Technologies, Wind Energy Systems, Mini-Grid Network Systems, Solar Energy Systems, Project Planning and Management, and Energy Policy and Governance.

Learning uses taught courses, work placement in an energy access enterprise during a recess term, and a research and dissertation stage. The programme is offered over four semesters and one recess term as a two-year full-time master’s programme. Delivery is hybrid, combining online and face-to-face teaching.

The programme is designed to respond to employer needs in the energy access sectors, with emphasis on communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork, plus gender considerations integrated into the teaching and learning cycle.
