Bachelor of Arts Honours in Media Studies

The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Media Studies at Zimbabwe Open University covers theories and practice in communication, media, new media, and communication technologies, plus topics such as media policy, law and ethics, global media structures, media and culture, and the sociology of mass communication. You also study reporting on children’s issues, media, democracy and human rights, and communication skills and ethics.

The programme includes modules in film studies, print media, script writing, media and advertising, community media, radio studies, text and discourse analysis, audience and reception studies, news gathering and writing, and research methods. Work in integrated learning runs across academic year 3 semesters, followed by final modules such as media and development, public relations, writing editing and publishing, media management, international relations, television studies, desktop publishing, investigative journalism, research project, and political communication and the media.

A minimum of 5 ‘O’ level passes, including English Language at Grade C or better. (4 Years)

3 Year undergraduate degree programmes. Prospective students must hold ZIMCHE accredited Diplomas in a relevant field in addition to 5 ‘O’ Levels including English Language.

2 Year undergraduate degree programmes: Attained a qualification at Level 6 of the Zimbabwe National Qualifications Framework (ZNQF), (Higher National Diploma) awarded by a recognized university, college, or institute. Such applicants will be admitted into part 3 of the study programme.
